n Sunday, October 4, we will join Christians around the world in celebrating World Communion Sunday. On this occasion in worship, we pay special attention to our oneness in Christ with all who gather to partake in this meal. At Swarthmore Presbyterian Church this looks like worship which includes global music, liturgy led in varied languages, and breads from many cultures. It is a joyous and wonderful occasion to give thanks to Christ and to experience the beautiful diversity of Christian witness. Come, and find food for your soul.
Calling All Bread Bakers!
Please deliver bread to the Church Sacristy by Friday, October 2
World Communion Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the bakers in our congregation and the rich variety of breads they make. Do you enjoy baking bread, or do you have a special bread that reflects your cultural heritage? We would love to include your contribution to the communion table on Sunday, October 4, and share it in Fellowship Hall following worship. If you are willing to bake, please contact Rev. Sarah Cooper Searight. All varieties are welcome—flatbreads, roti, naan, pita, yeast breads, and more. Please deliver your bread to the Church Sacristy by Friday, October 2, for use that Sunday. Thank you!

s Presbyterians, we are blessed to be part of a denomination that puts a high value on expanding global witness and has a longstanding commitment of working toward peacemaking and reconciliation, especially in cultures of violence. Through the Office of Public Witness in Washington, D.C., there is direct advocacy at the national level. Through the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, there is challenging work to look at upstream ways for ending gun violence. PCUSA World Mission partners worldwide work daily towards social justice. The World Communion Offering, one of three annual denomination offerings, is an important source of funds for this. It also directly supports SPC efforts. 50% of the funds collected go directly to denominational efforts through Presbyterian Life and Witness. The 50% we keep is designated “to connect with the global witness of Christ’s peace”. To read more, click here.
Special offering envelopes will be available at the entrance of Loeffler Chapel and in the Sanctuary pews. You may contribute at any time in any of the following ways:
- Mail in a check made payable to Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, with “World Communion Offering” on the memo line.
- Use the special pew envelope provided for this purpose to make a cash offering on Sunday morning.
- Make an online donation (credit card or direct debit) via SPC’s Online Donation Page.
