PCUSA Mission Co-Workers based in the Democratic Republic of Congo

W

ith news of the retirement of our longtime partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), John and Gwenda Fletcher, the World Mission Committee has spent the last year in discernment regarding a new partnership on the continent of Africa. Wanting to sustain our connection there, we researched and were eventually led by the Spirit to get to know Jeff and Christi Boyd. In January, the World Mission Committee voted unanimously and with great joy to enter into a new partnership with Jeff and Christi, and thereby the people they serve alongside.

Several things stood out to the World Mission Committee about the faithful ministry of the Boyds; including the opportunity to continue our support of seminarians and thereby the building up of the church around the world, as well as potential to engage in ministries driven by local communities around trauma care for women and girls, and broader initiatives around public health.

Jeff serves as the Regional Liaison for Central Africa and Christi as the facilitator for women and children’s interests. The Boyds have served in the broad region of Central Africa since 1990, raising their children there (now adults, Matthias, Salome, and Naomi) and deeply committed to God’s continued work in this place and these people. Background on SPC’s Commitment to Engage in Global Ministry
Over many years, Swarthmore Presbyterian Church has been connected to the ongoing work of Christ around our world, through specific relationships with denominational Mission Co-Workers. The World Mission Committee, on your behalf, works closely with these remarkable people; all of whom link us to opportunities to financially support seminarians in places like Nicaragua, Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Philippines, as well as connecting us directly to needs of local communities, providing clean water, workforce development, sustainable income, medical aid, and much more. Currently, we have active partnerships with Cobbie and Dessa Palm (Philippines), Doug Dicks (Palestine), Jhan and Ian Dotel-Vellenga (Nicaragua), and Jeff and Christi Boyd (Democratic Republic of Congo).
