Sunday, May 17
very year, Presbyterians celebrate Heritage Sunday, a day to reflect upon and learn more about the long and rich history of the Presbyterian church in America. Heritage Sunday falls on the Sunday closest to May 21, the opening date of the first General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America in 1789. Today, we as we pause to remember this important piece of our history and offer thanks for our forefathers and the vision and perseverance that paved the way for the system of governance that has served us well for hundreds of years, it seems a good time to announce that work is afoot to celebrate 125th anniversary of several major milestones in our own history that gave birth to the congregation and corporation of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church.
125th Anniversary of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church to be Celebrated!
This November, we will celebrate our 125th anniversary as a gathered body of Christ. Worship, mission, and education remain among our core ministries. There is much to be celebrated! A team of current members full of creativity, commitment, and determination is now at work hoping to shine a bright light on SPC’s ministries throughout the last 125 years, setting the stage for envisioning the church’s faithful ministry into the future. In the months ahead there will be formative stories creatively shared, and when we are ready to gather together again in large numbers, there will some festivities!
How thankful we are for all the people whose hands and hearts have, over 125 years, built and sustained the work of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church!
