Lord’s Day Worship / 10:15 am
Lay preacher, Mary Huissen
in the Sanctuary & via livestream

I

t is a homecoming of sorts. A day of celebrating and giving thanks for the people that God has called to this place for worship and service. For 131 years, Swarthmore Presbyterian Church has been home to generations of individuals with all sorts of interests and abilities who come together over a shared love of God and of one another with helping hands and large hearts. Year after year, this leads to remarkable efforts of service, learning, outreach, and caring ministries through which trusting relationships take root and lives are transformed. It is a day of special welcome to former and future members. Please plan to be here. Reach out to someone that you have not seen here for a while, and invite them to be here, too. Mary Huissen, an Elder and active member, will be serving as our preacher. Music for worship will be led multi-generationally by our Hosanna! Singers, Alleluia! Singers and Chancel Choir. Thanks be to God.

Why Anniversary Sunday?
On November 16, 1895, a committee appointed by the Presbytery of Chester met with twenty-four charter members and laid the groundwork for the congregation of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church. One year later, November 30, 1896, the newly completed Sanctuary was dedicated to the glory of God for use by the people of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church in service as a body of Christ. On this Sunday, each year, as we worship in that very Sanctuary, we celebrate those who have come before us, give thanks for all who sustain the church and its mission today, and dare to dream about where God might be leading us in the years to come. In that spirit, there is a long-standing tradition of inviting one of our current members to preach the sermon on this day.

About Our Lay Preacher, Mary Huissen
During the week, Mary Huissen works on strategic initiatives as the Assessment & User Experience Librarian at Swarthmore College. She has served on the Worship and Music and Children and Youth Committees at SPC where she is also currently serving as an elder. She enjoys reading and thinking, and time outdoors. You may find her most evenings sitting with her husband, Fritz, on their back deck and patio; the most lived in “rooms” of their home. And even though she moved away from Michigan decades ago, she makes regular visits to friends and family there and always makes time to look out on the Big Lake. (Michigan. Always capitalized.)

Thanksgiving Fellowship | 11:15 am in Fellowship Hall
Join us for Pie Share!

We have so very much to be thankful for as Thanksgiving approaches. New visitors, members new and old, and all who happen to be here Sunday, November 22 are invited to enjoy being together as church family to enjoy some seasonal beverages and as many varieties of pie as churchgoers are interested in providing. We call it “pie share.”  Do you have a favorite (homemade or store bought)? Could you provide one for the sharing table? If so, please let us know by signing up here.
