The Gospel of John has been described as “a stream in which a child can wade and an elephant can swim,” a comment attributed to both St. Augustine and Pope Gregory the Great. The Fourth Gospel, often called the “spiritual gospel” is at the same time one of the most approachable Gospels and extraordinarily complex. To kick off the series on “I AM” statements in the Gospel of John, we will begin with an overview of this unique and life-giving book. Together we will consider the world behind, within, and beyond the Fourth Gospel text, exploring the setting of its writing, the literary beauty within its pages, and the abundant life to which it leads its readers. Join us in this journey into the Gospel of John!

Lindsey is a teacher at heart and works as the Associate Director of Digital Learning at Princeton Theological Seminary. She has taught New Testament courses at the undergraduate and graduated levels at Texas Christian University, Baylor University, Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, Campbell University, and Princeton Theological Seminary. In 2017 she published Exploring Johannine Ethics, which came out of her doctoral work. Before earning a PhD in New Testament at Baylor University, Lindsey served as the High School Youth Director at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, CA. Ordained in the Alliance of Baptists, Lindsey and her spouse Deborah are members of Kingston United Methodist Church, where Lindsey is also a Theologian in Residence. You’ll usually find them eating good food, playing board games, or walking with their two pups, Belle and Abbot.
