Moment for Stewardship: Outreach Ministry at SPC

by Rev. Sarah Cooper Searight

T

his year, you helped the Outreach Committee focus in on key mission priorities by sharing what is most important to you. These priorities include— Food Insecurity, Housing Instability, Refugee Resettlement, Childhood Education, Eldercare, and Gun Violence. Many of these are consistent with partnerships already in place, where love reaches faithfully into the wider community.

For example, this year SPC assisted Chester Eastside in initiating a brand new, collaborative after school program called Kids First; bringing together trained teachers, program administrators and volunteers to serve elementary-aged kids living in the neighborhoods around Chester Eastside. In 2025 we want to help Kids First thrive into a 2nd academic year. Further, in this year SPC helped ensure the success of a new hot meals program, called Open Table. In 2025 we want to extend these hot meals to an additional day through a special collaboration between SPC and Chester Eastside.

Elsewhere, SPC was both a sponsor of and participated in the Chester Peace Walk, to rally against gun violence; First Place Swarthmore has expanded our involvement with the refugee families we serve; and of course, SPC helped to house two new scholars in the ABC House for this academic year. In 2025 we want to further this work, for greater impact and community involvement.

I hope you will give generously to this year’s stewardship campaign, as we continue Christ’s mission of love reaching—through us and beyond us, binding us to one another. Thank you!

The following FAQ (available by clicking the button below) is designed to provide insight into how SPC allocates our pledged dollars and how pledges help SPC to plan its ministry. We hope this information will help you in considering your annual pledge to the ministry of SPC.

As you prayerfully consider making your financial pledge, we invite you to reflect on our 2025 “Moment for Stewardship” videos.
