Presbyterian Women

Did you know that if you are an active church member and female, you are also part of Presbyterian Women (PW)? Since the early 1800s, Presbyterian women have organized themselves to support mission and combat social injustice nationally and internationally. This independent organization within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has a strong presence at SPC and hosts several events annually. You are invited to participate in as many of these opportunities as suits your interests.

Bible Study

Monthly meetings September through June
Newcomers are welcome to join these monthly gatherings in the Study, where attendees follow the study guide published by Horizons. (This year’s focus is on The Ten Commandments.) For those available during the day, class meets the second Thursday of the month at 10:00 am. Our evening Bible Study group typically meets the first Monday of each month, at 7:00 pm. If you would like to join, simply contact the church office to let us know you are interested, and we will help you secure a copy of the study guide.

Annual Women’s Fall Retreat

In the fall, PW will once again host a weekend retreat in Ocean Grove, NJ. This is an open invitation to all the women of the congregation to join us for a weekend at the beach that offers some structured programming but also allows time for walks on the beach, relaxed dining and conversation, and fellowship.

Annual Women’s Lenten Retreat

This day-long Saturday gathering is held on site during the Lenten season. Here we offer education, guided discussion, prayer, and reflection, along with plenty of good food and fellowship.

Labyrinth Walks

SPC is blessed with a beautiful outdoor labyrinth, located in our Memorial Garden. PW provides workshops and flyers offering guidance to those wishing to use our labyrinth. A member of the PW coordinating team is a gifted instructor and guide and is available on an ad hoc basis to work with groups (minimum of 6 people) interested in spending a few hours exploring this ancient spiritual discipline. Please contact the church office if you would like to arrange a tour.

Summer Book Group & Movie Screenings

PW is always on the lookout for thought-provoking books and films that lead to meaningful discussions on topics that are relevant in today’s world. When they find a great one, we open SPC’s doors for an evening of fellowship. Open to all, these informal gatherings generally begin with a BYO dinner, with some discussion of the chosen book or movie. When it’s a movie, discussion is followed by a free viewing on the big screen in the air-conditioned comfort of Fellowship Hall. Check our church calendar regularly for upcoming events.

    Newcomers Gathering (Loeffler Chapel)

To all who are seeking a church home and wondering if SPC may be a good fit: this invitation is for you! Churches are living breathing humans with all their many gifts and foibles. What we do in ministry is the product of these things; every new member adds dimension to our life and work together. Our Membership Committee is pleased to host monthly conversations facilitated by one of our pastors on Sunday mornings where philosophical questions of faith and doctrine are welcomed along with practical questions about the workings of worship, offerings for Christian formation (both for children and adults), and outreach to neighbors, and caring support of one another. This will be followed by a brief tour of church spaces and will wrap up in good time for you to attend 10:15 am worship in the Sanctuary.
