s a community of Christians, we share worship and fellowship; we are also invited to engage in dialogue and discernment around complex and difficult subjects. In so doing, we are reflecting on these subjects through the lens of our faith.

Time and again we have witnessed the results of gun violence throughout our country, in schools, in places of worship, on our streets, and in our neighborhoods. On Sunday, June 9, we invite those interested to a presentation on local impacts of gun violence led by SPC member, Guy Smith. Guy has served many years as a criminal defense lawyer in Delaware County, and will be joined by his colleague George B. Dawson, who serves as deputy District Attorney for Delaware County. Their presentation will be focused on the difference between lawful gun ownership and the growing problem of illegal guns and straw purchasing. Mr. Smith and Mr. Dawson will offer evidence from their professional experiences to illumine the pipeline from illegal acquisition of firearms to commission of violent crimes here in this area.

The Peacemaking Committee of SPC sponsors this event and hopes it to be a springboard into further opportunities for focused conversation and discernment on this complex topic of gun violence and how we as a community can be a witness for peace and healing.

Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch. Beverages will be provided. Questions? Please contact Rev. Sarah Cooper Searight.
