› Chester Peace Walk & Block Party Revisited
n Saturday, June 8, members, and friends of SPC joined neighbors from Chester and surrounding areas to walk a 1-mile path through some of the neighborhoods most impacted by gun violence. Many wore orange, a color associated with the movement to end gun violence, carrying signs calling for safety for the community. The walk ended at the Crozier Library where community and civic leaders spoke to the need for common sense gun legislation and community support to assist families who are impacted. The event then shifted into a Block Party, a safe space for any in the community to gather, with music, food, and information on services.
At the event, members of the Outreach Committee of SPC had a table featuring the Soul Box Project, an artistic means of awareness raising in communities across the United States. The event was organized by SPC Outreach partner, Chester Community Coalition, an organization with a mission to provide trauma-based support services to families directly affected by gun violence in Chester, PA, and Delaware County.
