n Sunday, October 1, we celebrate World Communion Sunday in our worship with different languages, music, and breads of many cultures. On this Sunday we join the faithful across many continents, remembering and celebrating the ties that bind us together in Christ. To mark this special Sunday, we will welcome as a leader for the morning, Christi Boyd, a PCUSA Mission Co-Worker based in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Her role is as the Regional Facilitator for Women’s and Children’s Interests, and she serves alongside her husband, Jeff, who is the Regional Liaison for Central Africa.  Unfortunately, Jeff is unable to join her as planned, and we keep him in prayer as he undergoes surgery to implant a pacemaker.

About Christi & Jeff Boyd

Christi Boyd is the Regional Facilitator for Women’s and Children’s Interests. She works alongside communities in Congo, Madagascar, Niger, Rwanda, and South Sudan accompanying global partners as they seek to remedy the marginalization of women and children in their communities. She also engages Presbyterians in the US who wish to come alongside and promote these efforts. Though trained as a physical therapist, Christi has longstanding experience bringing people together to address root causes of hunger and poverty. Having completed thirteen years as facilitator for the Joining Hands Initiative of the Presbyterian Hunger Program with partners in Cameroon, she has expertise in building bridges of solidarity that connect people to tackle problems from the local context to the globalized world. Across the African continent, the well-being of women and children is compromised —and authentic Christian witness undermined—by customary practices, inadequate laws and economic exploitation that deprive them of their rightful opportunities.

Jeff Boyd serves as the Regional Liaison for Central Africa, facilitating support for the relationships and programs of Presbyterian Church (USA) partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea. He also mentors PC(USA) mission personnel and resources PCUSA congregations that want to be involved in ministry with partner churches in the region. A former math teacher, Jeff brings to his duties as regional liaison more than three decades of experience as an educator and mission worker in Pakistan and different countries in Africa. Jeff says his agenda is guided by “what the local partner is already doing or is committed to do.”
