Moment for Stewardship: Caring Ministries

S

ometimes it is the quiet acts of care that make the deepest impact. This is what we see so poignantly when we experience a death in our church family. A whole operation moves into action quietly, thoroughly, and with tenderness that can make all the difference for families experiencing grief to know they are not alone.

The Board of Deacons, many of whom have nurtured relationships through regular visits, will reach out to family members with an offer to provide meals.

The Shawl Ministry assures that we have hand-knitted shawls to offer the warmth of Christ’s embrace.

The Marthas—volunteers who take their name from Jesus’ friend, Martha, who cared for him in her home—take this example, working directly with the family and the staff to attend to the details of table-setting, greeting, serving, and clean up for receptions following Memorial Services at SPC. Their efforts make our space an exceptional place of warmth and care.

The Holy Order of Environmentalists (HOE), volunteers who work year-round to maintain our Church gardens, pay special attention to our Memorial Garden to make this a peaceful and beautiful space for interments and for loved ones to visit at any time.

Of course, our whole staff works closely to attend to the many needs of grieving families not only at the time of loss but in the days, weeks and months following.

All of this is just another testament to how love can change everything. The care we show one another in these most vulnerable times deepens our witness that in life and in death, we belong to God. Your support of our annual budget helps to make all of this possible.

Thank you for your faithful giving that assures our ability to care well for one another, in all seasons of life.
