A

s we approach the national holiday honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we wanted to share with you a few discrete opportunities in our area for service that are designed especially for this occasion. While we are not hosting an event at the church this year, we will be serving at Chester Eastside for Open Table Saturday on January 18 as well as Saturday, January 25 (and ongoing). You are welcome to sign up to volunteer by clicking here. First Place Swarthmore continues to host a refugee family originating from Syria, and our Family Coordinators are learning along the way what needs there are to provide hospitality during their stay. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help, please contact Anne Wohlschlaeger by clicking here.

On Sunday, January 19, the community has been invited to participate in the 26th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration, hosted by the Media Fellowship House, the Media Area NAACP, local houses of worship and other partners. The event takes place from 3 – 4:30 pm at First Church in Media (350 W. State St., Media, PA), and will be a diverse program of speaking, recognition, and entertainment. A dinner will follow. For more information and to register, click here.

On Monday, January 20, the Chester Day of Service begins at 9:30 am with breakfast and a gathering at Subaru Park (12 Reaney St, Chester, PA, people are encouraged to park in Lot G off of Rte. 291).
