Moment for Stewardship: Intergenerational Worship at SPC
by Rev. Sarah Cooper Searight
Associate Pastor for Outreach Ministry, Congregational Care, and Worship Coordination
ach week on Sunday morning, all ages come together to worship God. It is a unique habit in a world in which more often we are separated into ages and stages of life. Trusting that at every age we are learning to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ, the Worship and Music Committee alongside worship staff are committed to nurturing our intergenerational worship life. One key resource is our relationships, learning the many gifts of this congregation and inviting people to lead with them.
You may have noticed this careful and persistent work on Sunday mornings—from liturgists to acolytes, Greeters and Ushers of all ages, to youth and adults who manage the audio-visual desk, from instrumental ensembles to collaborations between choirs. We celebrate our youngest worshipers who participate in A Time with Children and welcome older adults off the bus from White Horse Village each week. And this is just on Sundays!
There are so many other ways we worship throughout the year as well. People of all ages and stages of life have the privilege of sharing the experience of worship weekly. It is a joy when we all feel welcomed for who we are, for the gifts we offer, and simply for our presence.
