› Donation of Goods

Several of the local organizations supported by our Outreach dollars or volunteer efforts also collect basic furnishings for those they serve. We have collection areas right in the church for a few of these; you may bring contributions during office hours (June 18 – Sept. 1: Monday – Thursday, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm) or on Sunday mornings.

• SPC’s Fall Fair: By far the church’s biggest fundraiser, the Fall Fair relies on its members to provide donations to stock this long-running, popular Swarthmore tradition. Two collection dates are scheduled each year (one in April and one in September) when our parking lot is filled with volunteers eager to take donations out of the hands of willing donors. Donations are also accepted through the year, just contact a Fall Fair chair to make arrangements.

Items collected at the fair include:

• Flea Market – Kitchen wares; small appliances; baking pans; garden tools; household and holiday decor; lamps; craft materials; yarn; and fabric. Please make sure items are clean and still working. Furniture and other large or heavy items should be held until the Friday before the fair.
• Toys & Sporting Goods – Outgrown/used sporting equipment in good condition for children or adults. Puzzles, games, Legos, dolls, toys, dress-up/Halloween outfits, and other kid-related items in clean, working order. Plus, all baby gear and toys.
• Collectibles & Auction – Coffee tables, side tables, chests, crystal, pottery, old linens, china, quilts, iron skillets or pots, oil paintings, and any size oriental rugs. Special arrangements should be made for large furniture.
• Books – Novels (especially paperbacks), recent reference books, craft and cooking books, classics, sheet music, children’s books, recent software, and DVDs are particularly welcome.
• Jewelry & Accessories – This booth is a mecca of scarves, upscale and interesting handbags, and, of course, jewelry. Costume jewelry, interesting silver pieces, and even jewel boxes are welcome. Please be sure pieces are in good condition.
• SPC Pantry – The SPC Pantry sells culinary creations of great variety.

• Food Pantry at Chester Eastside Ministries: Nonperishable foods of all variety are collected in bins located in Pinkston Outreach Center (Fellowship Hall lobby). Most useful items include cereal; pasta, canned prepared meals such as chili, stews, and pasta entrees; peanut butter, crackers, canned fruits and vegetables, and basic seasonings. Take advantage of those multiple-item-purchase grocery store specials and bring the surplus here, or use the monthly shopping lists suggested by our Hunger Task Force.
• Clothing for Career Wardrobe (http://careerwardrobe.org/): The Career Wardrobe is an agency committed to assisting women transitioning to work with networking, career training skills, and interview attire. We accept clothing donations in a closet just outside the church office. Volunteers from our Presbyterian Women ensure that your donations are delivered to Career Wardrobe. Useful clothing includes: matching business suits (skirt or pant); separates: skirts, pants, blazers, blouses; Casual Friday outfits; service industry items: white tops/blouses and black, navy, and tan bottoms (pants and skirts), polo shirts in all colors; scrubs (without logos). They can also use some accessories: gently worn shoes, purses, handbags/briefcases, jewelry. And new/unused pantyhose and toiletries are always in demand. Donations should arrive ready-to-wear: clean, on hangers, all buttons, working zippers, no tears or stains. Accessories and casual clothing can be placed in shopping bags.
