Presbyterian Women

One of the hallmarks of Presbyterian Women (PW) is our commitment to giving.  Financial contributions made to PW are shared among a variety of international, national, and local charities, many of which support the needs of women and children.  Past recipients include international and national organizations identified by our national PW leaders in Lexington, KY, Anne Wohlschlaeger’s medical mission trip to Brazil, Barbara Pitman’s domestic abuse prevention efforts through “Shelter from the Storm,” the SPC labyrinth, T.M.Thomas in Chester, Chester Eastside Ministries, John Gloucester House, and Presbyterian Children’s Village.  If you are moved to provide financial support through SPC's Presbyterian Women, please view our Designated Gifts page for instructions.

Within our own congregation, PW activities are planned that reflect the current interests of PW's Coordinating Team.  All women of the congregation are part of Presbyterian Women; there is no need to officially join.  However, if you would like to join PW's Coordinating Team, please contact the church office.

SPC's Presbyterian Women host many events throughout the year.  Some are described below:

Bible Study typically has two groups that meet monthly - one in the day and one in the evening.  Please check the church calendar for exact days, times, and room location.

An annual Fall Retreat, held at the New Jersey shore in Ocean Grove for the last several years.  This is a weekend of spiritual investigation and growth along with friendly companionship.

An annual Lenten Retreat, often held as a one day in-church gathering.

An annual Labyrinth Walk & Study of spiritual practices through the use of our outdoor Labyrinth.

A Summer Book Group.

An Opening Fall Event, often featuring a guest speaker.  The 2009 event was a luncheon in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, October 25, featuring special guests from Broad Street Ministry, Erika Funk and Elizabeth Hein.  For further information, see our Happenings Archive page.

During the past few winters, the Presbyterian Women of SPC have shown films that contain a strong female point of view and then engage in some discussion and fellowship.

The Teddy Bear Hugs initiative collects stuffed animals in hopes of bringing comfort to children who are in families affected by domestic abuse.

SPC's Presbyterian Women is part of PC (U.S.A.)'s Presbyterian Women, the national women's organization of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) whose purpose is stated below.
