Called by Jesus, members of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church offer help, hope and encouragement to a broad spectrum of people in need both locally and worldwide. The Outreach Committee serves as the facilitator for this powerful, energizing and humbling work.
Mission awareness is a critical aspect of Outreach. Outreach responsibility goes beyond the distribution of funds. We seek to get to know our mission partners and together work to fulfill their goals as well as to provide financial help, and we seek to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for our church membership. These opportunities can be individual or group projects and can be long-term or immediate in nature. SPC provides intergenerational mission opportunities such as the annual Martin Luther King, Jr, Day of Service.
Our Mission Partners are made up of a variety of local organizations that strive to address needs in the areas of hunger, homelessness, employment, education, displacement and spiritual growth. Outreach also serves as an umbrella committee overseeing the work of the Alternative Christmas Shop, the Hunger Task Force, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, the World Mission Task Force and Chester's Co-op Link. Each month, Outreach presents a “Moment for Mission” during the 10:15 am worship service to provide a closer look at one of our local mission partners or another opportunity for outreach service at SPC.
