Education for Ministry

A Program of Theological Education at a Distance

EFM is a wonderful in-depth college level program of study that covers the Old and New Testaments and a great deal of church history.  Developed by the University of the South, an Episcopal seminary in Sewanee, Tennessee, it was modified for lay study many years ago.  Completion of the program takes four years.  Participants commit one year at a time to meet regularly in seminars led by a trained mentor.  The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work.

The EFM group led by SPC members Gay and Grant Grissom includes people with a variety of backgrounds, faith traditions, and interests; together they form an exciting, supportive learning community.  The curriculum revolves around weekly sessions held from 6:30 to 9:00 pm most Sunday evenings from September through May.  If you are interested in joining, please contact the church office at spcparish@swarthmorepres.org or 610-543-4712.

You can visit EFM's website at www.sewanee.edu/EFM/index.htm for more information on the program.
