Deacons
Home Communion | Tape Delivery Service
The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office. It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.

Deacons are available to visit those who are isolated from the life of the community. They are in touch every three weeks or so. If you or a family member would appreciate such visits, please contact our Associate Pastor for Congregational Care & Older Adult Ministry, Rev. Lisa Day, at 610-543-4712 or lisa.day@swarthmorepres.org.
SPC Deacons engage in a variety of caring ministries. Whether visiting shut-ins, delivering flowers or worship tapes on Sunday morning, helping out with a ride to the doctor, making and taking a casserole or other food on needful occasions, escorting those who ride the van from our retirement communities (White Horse Village and Lima Estates), bringing Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias to brighten the season, extending the communion table from our sanctuary into the homes of our members, or sending a birthday card, being a deacon means being of service to others. No job for the deacons is ever the same - nor is it too "small" a task to perform.
