Youth in Worship Ministries
Sunday Morning Liturgists
Volunteers read scripture and offer prayers both in Church Family Worship (2nd, 4th, and 5th Sundays) and in the Sanctuary on 1st & 3rd Sundays each month. Anyone interested should be in touch with John Weicher.
Members of the 9th grade Confirmation Class (visit Youth Education) serve as liturgists during Lent.
Cross & Banner Carriers
The processional in the Sanctuary at 10:15am each Sunday is led by two youth -- one carrying the cross and another the banner. Youth in grades 5-12 are encouraged to sign up on a one Sunday at a time basis for any Sunday(s) that suit the family calendar. Responsibilities are outlined on the Acolyte Duties flyer. Signups are managed at SignUp Genius.
The Youth Choir (visit Music) sings in worship throughout the year, including on Christmas Eve and Youth Sunday.
Musicians for Church Family Worship
Each Sunday's offertory music is provided by volunteers, and this may take the form of an instrumental solo, a small ensemble, a duet (either vocal or instrumental), or any creative grouping of musicians willing to provide appropriate music. Dorrie McGrath (firstname.lastname@example.org) coordinates this schedule and is happy to field questions, share ideas, and help you find appropriate music.
Ushers greet those attending services in the Sanctuary, help them find seats, collect the offering, and serve a safety role as well -- so attentiveness to those with difficulty managing steps etc. is important. Interested? Please contact usher coordinator Gary Williams at email@example.com.
High school youth are invited to staff the A/V desk on Sunday mornings. Signups are one Sunday at a time, so easy to calendar, and the view from our 3 cameras (you control which is recording at any given time) is actually better than from any seat in the pews! Questions? Contact Dorrie McGrath in the church office.
The 8:00 pm Christmas Eve service is one of lessons and carols led by our high schoolers. The 4:00 pm Christmas Eve pageant is acted out and led by our middle schoolers and younger children.
In May, one Sunday features our children's cantata and middle school leadership of music and liturgy.
For Youth Sunday (usually sometime in February) our high schoolers put together an entire Sunday morning worship service -- selecting the Bible passages and hymns, interpreting the text, writing the liturgy, and presenting it Sunday morning. Youth serve as ushers and provide music as well. The sermons are usually preached by members of the senior class. You can find previous Youth Sunday sermons in our Worship and Music section and listen to past Youth Sunday services on our Audio Highlights Archive page.
Music, Liturgy, Supporting Roles
Leading worship is an important part of our faith development as Christians. At SPC, youth serve as worship leaders in a number of ways throughout the year.
