Samantha Fickling (Middle School)
Samantha grew up in the youth program of SPC, so she knows all of the tricks – the best sardines hiding spots, the best seats on Ye Olde SPC bus, where we keep the snacks. Sam is the kindest of our youth advisors, always willing to befriend the new person and share in the struggles we all have. Outside of church, she attends Temple University. This is Sam’s fourth year with our middlers.
Sarah Fickling (High School)
Like her younger sister, Samantha, Sarah grew up at SPC. She’s back in town, having just completed her Masters in Fine Arts for costume design from Ohio State. Sarah is fun, kind and will make sure that kitchen gets clean at Montreat when no one else is paying attention. We’re very excited to have Sarah as a leader, and she can tell stories on John from his early wild and wooly days as a youth leader at SPC in the early 2000s.
Mark Gibble (High School)
Mark is married to Karen and the father of Quinn and Mae. (point for Mark.) When John and Mark run into each other playing a random game, Mark gets better than he gives. (point for Mark.) Mark always has distinctive t-shirts. (point for Mark.) Mark has crazy Biblical knowledge. (game, set, match for Mark.) Whether it’s a serious discussion or a ridiculous activity, Mark is a man for all seasons. He works for the state of Pennsylvania.
Ben Hall (Middle School}
Ben has been a member of SPC since his college days at Swarthmore College, where he played football. Now, he’s a “real adult” with a job, two children (Audrey & Paige) and a spouse (Trish). Ben brings a much needed goofy energy to the advisor team. He’s a big Star Wars fan. And he vehemently believes that cake is an icing delivery vehicle.
Zoe Junghans (Middle School)
Zoe comes to SPC from the Lutheran tradition and through her friend, Nathan Scalise. Having started with us in the middle of last year, Zoe has already shown a great ability to welcome even the quietest middle schooler and make her/him feel at home. She is a senior at Swarthmore College, where she’s involved in campus religious and interfaith life. Zoe will be focusing on our 8th grade girls this year.
Liz McGrath (Middle School)
Like her cousin, Samantha, Liz grew up at SPC, where she loved rebuilding homes in New Orleans and Appalachia and preaching the sweet word on Youth Sunday during her senior year. A graduate of Purdue University, Liz now flies airplanes for a living, when she’s not helping people buy and sell homes. She knows all of the youth group shenanigans, so don’t you dare try to pull anything. Just kidding. Not eally.
Marisa Mastripolito (Middle School)
Our newest advisor is Marisa Mastripolito. She comes to us through current middle school advisor and child of the church Samantha Fickling. Marisa and Samantha are both students at Temple. Marisa is very much a local girl, having graduated from Ridley High School and still living nearby. She grew up in the Catholic Church, but an emerging sense of a call to ministry and theological differences with that branch of the faith have led her away from her roots and towards us.
Carlyn Miller (High School)
Like Sam and Liz, Carlyn grew up at SPC, but she’s a couple of years older than those younguns. By day, she works in big event planning for the University of Pennsylvania She’s a lot of fun, and always has a good question to ask or a listening ear to lend. This will be Carlyn’s fourth year with our high schoolers.
John Weicher (Both)
Things John loves, in no particular order: Cheerwine, the Chicago White Sox, fun & silly games, UNC basketball, watching you in a play/match/game/performance, crossword puzzles, his children (Tate & Lucy) and his wife (Laurie), wearing church t-shirts, sleeping late, Project Runway, and those fabulous summer church trips. He also loves being SPC’s associate pastor for youth and Christian education. He’s excited about the youth of this church and its community, and that he gets to walk with them on their journeys of faith. He is also not very funny, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to be.
