7:00 pm in the Study
Open to all who are considering SPC as a church home and have some questions. Led by Rev. Joyce Shin, with the support of several members, participants will spend some time getting to know one another, talking about what it means to be Presbyterian, and how we can serve one another and our neighbors through all that happens here. Please RSVP to the church office to let us know you are coming: 610-543-4712 or email@example.com.
Youth Stock Sale
Sundays, May 14, May 21, June 4
Support SPC Youth Serving Neighbors Through ASP & CEPAD
One of the most concrete ways to make our mission co-mission is through the Youth Stock Sale. SPC members and friends are invite to help support participants financially by purchasing stock in the trips to Nicaragua and Lincoln County, West Virginia. Suggested contribution: $30 for an individual and $50 for a family. Stockholders will enjoy letters from the person(s) they support and be invited to a presentation when they return. Those traveling will be inviting your support during fellowship time on Sunday May 14 & 21 and June 4. Thank you!
Celebrating the Ministry of Music
Sunday June 4
10:15Worship in the Sanctuary
What better time in the liturgical calendar than Pentecost to hear the sounds of many voices and instruments? Come and hear God’s Word through the music of each of our vocal choirs, a handful of ringers [I think - may need to edit that out], and a few instrumentalists as well!
11:15Festive Fellowship in Honor of our Directors of Music
It’s party time! With a light lunch, some brief words of appreciation, and displays designed to honor their legacies, we celebrate the gifts that Jeff DeVault (Director of Music and of the Chancel Choir), Ray Thompson (Children’s Choir Director), Vippy Yee (Youth Choir Director) and Eileen Ericsson (Chancel Bell Choir Director) have brought to the ministry of music and worship at Swarthmore Presbyterian Church.
Summer Mission Commissioning
Sunday, June 4
10:15am in the Sanctuary
Whether it’s next door or across an ocean, as Christians, whenever we go out to serve, we do so in the name of Jesus Christ. We also do so in the name of our church, which is a blessed reminder that we do not go alone. On June 4, we’ll take a quick break from the musical celebrations of worship to commission those SPC members and friends serving this summer, particularly in Nicaragua, Appalachia, Raleigh, and in the larger church. Indeed, a commissioning is about co-mission – what we do together in Christ’s name.
We Are SPC:
Celebrating Those Who Serve and the Relationships That Result
Sunday, June 11
10:15am in the Sanctuary and 11:15 in Fellowship Hall
On the last Sunday before we move to a leaner summer version of the regular Sunday programming, we take time celebrate the constant and creative stewardship of time, talent, and tenacity through which this particular body of Christ has proved itself “ready to serve” for the past 10 months. Through countless ministries – from bus driving to making dinner for homeless families or hungry youth group participants to teaching or singing to greening and cleaning and organizing church spaces to helping to solve thorny IT issues or add value to a committee meeting to spending time with newfound friends from places as close as Chester and as far away as China, there are SPCers building relationships at every step of the way. Thanks be to God!
Thanks also to the Parish Life team, who invite us to call this “Sundae Sunday!” They provide the ice cream; we are all invited to bring toppings.
Sunday, June 18
11:45am in Loeffler Chapel
Tai Chi is a graceful form of exercise that is often described as “meditation in motion,” promoting serenity through gentle, flowing movements. If you find yourself needing a new way to loosen the knots of stresses and strains to make room for the Spirit to do its work, you are invited to join Mary Reindorp in Loeffler Chapel after fellowship on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 11:45.
Saturday, June 17
5:00pm in the Courtyard
In the Taizé community in southern France, worship is a meditative experience created through music, scripture, and prayer, with intentional space for silence. The chants – short musical pieces repeated again and again—are musical expressions of faith that seem to soak into the mind, creating a calm and welcoming space for the “still, small voice” of God. In answer to the deep need for rest — and silence — in our crowded calendars, SPC is beginning a monthly series of such services. Taizé services will be offered either in the courtyard or in the Chapel late in the afternoon on the 3rd Saturday of each month this summer. All are welcome!
