Keeping Your Pledge
Each year in the fall, members of the congregation are invited to make a pledge for the coming year, indicating their level of financial commitment.  This allows the Session of the church to prepare the annual budget, based on a reasonable expectation of income for the next year.  Pledge amounts are kept confidential. Information on making a pledge and the relevant forms can be found at Pledging.

Pledge payments -- and payments towards any other special gifts -- may be made through a variety of options, ranging from weekly offering envelopes to online banking.  The following is a comprehensive list.  You may also use the navigation panel (left) to click directly to the option you want to learn more about.

Online via recurring Payments
Use your bank’s automated bill payment feature to make your pledge payment each month, each week, or each quarter. You decide. Use the online banking tools of your bank to set up SPC as an “automatic bill pay account.”  This feature allows you to set up an automatic, recurring payment to SPC- you choose the date and the amount- and the checks will be generated and sent automatically to the church each month. The name for this service is slightly different with each bank, simply look at the online tools provided with your bank to see how easy it can be to schedule an automatic, recurring payment to SPC to spread your pledge payments throughout the year.  Checks should be addressed as follows:
      Payee:  Swarthmore Presbyterian Church
      Address: 727 Harvard Avenue/ Swarthmore, PA   19081
Memo line:  2015 Pledge (or whatever language describes where you want payment to go)

By Cash
If paying in cash, please request offering envelopes, which will be coded so that we can correctly post the contribution to the right donor.  Envelopes may be requested from the Finance Office at any time.  Contributions may be made weekly, monthly, or whatever best suits your personal banking habits.  Cash should not be mailed to the church, but may be put in the offering plate on Sunday morning or delivered to the church office during weekday office hours.

By Personal Check
Personal checks should be made out to Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, with the purpose of the payment (Pledge, Peacemaking Offering, Memorial Gift, etc.) indicated on the memo line.  Checks may be delivered in person during normal office hours or mailed to us at the address indicated above.

Stocks & Securities
Gifts of stock are a wonderful way to support SPC and provide you with both income and capital gains tax deductions.

To make a gift of stock, please follow these instructions:
Ask your broker to wire transfer your stock gift by DTC to SPC’s Special Purpose Account at Charles Schwab:
SPC’s tax identification number (EIN) is 23-1352491

When making a gift of long-term appreciated stock and securities, be sure to transfer ownership of the securities to SPC. Do not sell the stock or securities on your own. This protects you from the capital gains tax on any appreciation.

Your gift will be valued and acknowledged on the date that the stock arrived in our account, and Jennifer Vincent will mail you a letter confirmation of the trade details.

Important: Please notify Jennifer Vincent the name of the stock as well as the number of shares and how you would like the gift to be used.

IRAs
The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 has reinstated the Charitable IRA Rollover retroactively for 2012 and extends it through December 31, 2013. Originally enacted in 2006, the Charitable IRA Rollover allows individuals age 70½ and older to make direct transfers up to $100,000 per year from individual retirement accounts to qualified charities without having to count the transfers as income for federal tax purposes. Since no tax is incurred on the withdrawal, gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction, but may be counted toward an individual’s minimum required distribution.

To make a gift from an IRA, please follow these instructions:
Ask your broker to wire transfer your stock gift by DTC to SPC’s Special Purpose Account at Charles Schwab:
Account name – Swarthmore Presbyterian Church – Special Purpose Fund
   DTC number – 0164
SPC’s tax identification number (EIN) is 23-1352491

Your gift will be valued and acknowledged on the date that the stock arrived in our account, and you will receive a letter confirmation of the trade details.

Important: Please notify Jennifer Vincent the name of the stock as well as the number of shares and how you would like the gift to be used.

Year-end Notes
To be eligible for a tax deduction for contributions in a particular year, all contributions must be received by the Church or postmarked by December 31 of that year. The Church Office closes at noon on December 31 or, if December 31 falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the Office closes on the prior Friday at noon.

Certain rules apply for donations of securities:
1. A gift is considered complete on the date of delivery to the Church Office or of the postmark if the security (securities) is(are) delivered or mailed with the appropriate forms and signature verification.

2. If a  gift is delivered to an agent, it is not considered complete until the stock is transferred to the Church’s account. This process can take weeks, so careful planning is important.

Please refer to the Gifts of Securities page for more detailed information on donations of securities.
