Donations of Goods

Several of the local organizations supported by our Outreach dollars or volunteer efforts also collect basic furnishings for those they serve.  We have collection areas right in the church for a few of these; you may bring contributions during office hours (10:00 - 5:00 Monday through Friday) or on Sunday mornings.

Clothing for Chester Eastside Ministries Care Closet  (Chester Eastside Ministries)

As you get your own closet organized from time to time, please set aside what you no longer use and bring it to the church.  Volunteers Nancy and Barkley Fritz load up their van almost every week with our donations and see that they get to the Care Closet at Chester Eastside Ministries.  They remind us that clothing doesn’t stay there long if it is clean and in good condition!  People without the means to buy something new come in all shapes and sizes; children and teens are least likely to fit into last year’s clothes, men and women are most likely to have put their children first.  So bring it all!  Hats, gloves, socks, shoes, boots, and coats are particularly welcome at this time of year.  Summer clothing, on the other hand, is a waste of valuable space.  And small bags are much easier to manage than large ones!  Shopping bags with handles are our favorites; they make your generous donations easy to transport and get reused as shoppers collect their finds to take home.  Medium trash bags or grocery bags are also good; please avoid large trash bags.  Thank you.  Please make every effort to see that all items are clean and serviceable; broken zippers and missing buttons are of no more use to someone else than they were to you.

Food Pantry at Chester Eastside Ministries

Nonperishable foods of all variety are collected in bins located in the lobby outside the Sacristy. Most useful items include cereal; pasta, canned prepared meals such as chili, stews, and pasta entrees; peanut butter, crackers, canned fruits and vegetables, and basic seasonings.  Take advantage of those multiple-item-purchase grocery store specials and bring the surplus here, or use the monthly shopping lists suggested by our hunger task force.

Clothing for Career Wardrobe   (Career Wardrobe)

The Career Wardrobe is an agency committed to assisting women transitioning to work with networking, career training skills, and interview attire.  We accept clothing donations in a closet just outside the church office.  Volunteers from our Presbyterian Women ensure that your donations are delivered to Career Wardrobe.  Useful clothing includes: matching business suits (skirt or pant); separates: skirts, pants, blazers, blouses; “Casual Friday” outfits; service industry items: white tops/blouses and black, navy, and tan bottoms (pants and skirts), polo shirts – all colors; scrubs (without logos).  They can also use some accessories:gently worn shoes, purses, handbags/briefcases, jewelry.  And new/unused pantyhose and toiletries are always in demand.  Donations should arrive ready-to-wear: clean, on hangers, all buttons, working zippers, no tears or stains.
Accessories and casual clothing can be placed in shopping bags.
