Sunday worship takes place at the usual times and in the usual places. We are called to worship with the lighting of Advent candles representing the themes of the four Sundays: Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy. Some of the newest members of our church family will be invited to lead this invitation to worship.

Special Music
Sunday, December 11
Vivaldi's "Gloria" and Brown's "Mary with Jesus"
On the 3rd Sunday of Advent, the prophet Isaiah calls us once again to “rejoice with joy and singing.” Gifted composers throughout the ages have set sacred texts to music and this morning we are invited to hear God’s Word in the strains of two wonderful and very different works for voice and chamber orchestra: Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Frank Burch Brown’s Mary with Jesus. The Gloria is a classic 18th century setting of 12 movements of the Latin Mass, composed originally for a boys’ choir; you may notice that the solo and duet movements are sung entirely by women.  Mary With Jesus is a 2005 setting of an ancient Muslim text taken from “The Muslim Jesus: Sayings and Stories in Islamic Literature.”

Special Delivery Christmas Carols
Sunday, December 11
3:00-5:00pm    beginning in Fellowship Hall
SPC singers herald the season as Christians all over the globe have done for centuries: visiting local members and neighbors who might enjoy a group of carolers singing just for them. Do you hear what we hear? Children, youth and adults who like to sing — getting together to do so for their neighbors. Former members, guests, and visiting relatives welcome! On Sunday afternoon we will meet in Fellowship Hall to distribute song sheets, get directions to visitees, sort ourselves into carpools, and get on the road singing. We will return to SPC around
4:30 for wassail and refreshments.  Please RSVP to the church office (610-543-4712 or by Tuesday, December 6 to say that you would like to be part of the troupe.

Sunday Morning Carols
Sunday, December 18
9:00am    in Fellowship Hall
Joy to the World! On the Sunday we light the candle of JOY, all are invited to Fellowship Hall during what is normally our education hour to sing Christmas carols and hymns.  Led by youth choir director, Vippy Yee, and accompanied by Barbara Addison at the piano, children and adults are encouraged to create a lot of joyful Christmas music together! Coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies will be available in the lobby.

Longest Night Worship
Monday, December 19
7:00pm    in Loeffler Chapel
“Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God.”
If you know (or are) someone whose Christmas joy is shadowed by loss or anxiety this year, please invite them to the Longest Night service on Monday, December 19. Led by our Stephen Ministers, it is a service of prayer, music, scripture, reflection, and candle-lighting, based on the form of a psalm of lament. Older children and youth, as well as adults, find the experience deeply meaningful. Even psalms of lament end with hope and we remember Isaiah’s promise: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness — on them light has shined.”

Christmas Eve Worship Services
Saturday, December 24
Pageant of the Nativity
4:00pm in the Sanctuary
Children age 3 through 4th grade create a lively stable of shepherds and sheep, cherubs and townsfolk as angels herald the good news. Middle school youth portray King Herod, the innkeeper, Mary and Joseph, and the Magi, and serve as ushers and liturgists. Guests welcome.
Rehearsal: Thursday, December 22, 4:00pm in the Sanctuary

Traditional Candlelight Service of Lessons & Carols
8:00pm in the Sanctuary
Christmas Eve brings us carols, scripture readings, and candlelight. Youth liturgists lead us through the entire Christmas story. Between readings, there are hymns and carols and music offered by young singers and instrumentalists. In prayer, offering and candle lighting, we honor the birth of our Lord and invite you to do the same.

Traditional Candlelight Service of Lessons & Carols
11:00pm in the Sanctuary
The entire Advent season is one of expectation. It is palpable as midnight approaches. Musical preludes begin at 10:40pm. The Word is proclaimed. Music is led by the chancel choir. At midnight the church is aglow in candlelight and the sounds of the organ and the familiar words “for God so loved the world. . .” assure
us that Christmas has come again.
Worship/Music Menu

With wreaths of candles lit with prayers of hope, peace, love, and joy, halls bedecked with greens, music that touches our hearts, minds, and souls, and words of scripture that remind us who we are and who we are called to be, we hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell:
“O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel.”
The poinsettias that grace  our worship & gathering spaces from Christmas Eve until Epiphany are given by those who wish to offer tributes in honor or in memory of loved ones.
Instructions for contributing poinsettias may be accessed by clicking on the image above.
